Your generous support of the Friends of the Rochester Public Market supports local farmers and provides the opportunity for your neighbors to live healthy and meaningful lives.

Since 2005, the Friends of the Rochester Public Market have partnered with the City of Rochester to champion and steward the Market, an enduring source of community pride that thousands rely on for healthy, seasonal food. The Friends enhance the resources of the Market, through programs and services that benefit customers, vendors and the community.

Your donation goes to support our largest program: The Market Token Program. This vital service helps individuals who have Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), or food stamp benefits, purchase fresh fruits, vegetables and other healthy affordable foods available at the Market:

• In its 11th year, the Market Token Program is the largest program of its kind in the country.

• In 2018, 7,300 SNAP customers purchased $1,053,000 of fresh, healthy foods at the Market which directly support local farmers and other vendors.

• This program assists families in our community who would not traditionally be able to afford fresh foods, access the ingredients for healthy meals.

We also provide free educational programs at the Market:

• Volunteer lead tours for school groups and others highlight the history of the Market, the role of local farmers and entrepreneurs, and the importance of healthy eating.

• Healthy eating programs show market shoppers how to prepare fresh, local produce and delicious ways to eat healthy.

• Artist Row, an annual juried art show, highlights over 200 emerging and experienced artists from the region and draws a crowd of over 10,000 people to the Market.

Funding for the Friends of the Rochester Public Market programs comes primarily from donations, grants and revenue generated by the sale of Market-branded merchandise.

But we could be doing so much more for our neighbors! There are people in our community that we could be reaching, and we need your help to get there. Only YOU can help us bring expanded healthy food and educational programming to the City of Rochester in 2020.

Join us for a Rochester holiday tradition of over 25 years! The market will ring in the holiday season with festive shopping, visits with Santa, horse-drawn carriage rides, cooking demonstrations, cookie decorating and much more in this special market series.

Holidays at the market are on Sundays, December 1, 8, and 15 from 8 a.m.- 2 p.m, and a NEW Thursday, December 19 market night, from 5 p.m.- 9 p.m.

We'll feature over 100 vendors with a huge selection of fresh cut trees, wreaths, decorations, unique gift items, specialty food and beverages, handcraft items and great stocking stuffers! Indoors, there will be cookie decorating, arts and crafts and visit from Santa from 10 a.m- 2 p.m.

*New this year!--- The Market is partnering with Rochester Institute of Technology to bring holiday cooking traditions from around the world. At 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Sunday, December 8 and 15, join us in our community kitchen (Indoor B Shed) to experience and sample cuisine from around the globe. We host chefs from a variety of cultures to demonstrate their holiday cooking expertise and provide samples!

*ALSO new this year!--We are adding an evening holiday market on Thursday, December 19 from 5 p.m.- 9 p.m., thanks to a collaboration between the Rochester Public Market District and Roc Holiday Village. Shuttles will run continuously between Roc Holiday Village and the Public Market from 4:30 p.m.- 10:30 p.m. so you can enjoy all the local festivities in one night! This special festive night will be complete with carolers, horse-drawn wagons around the Market District, and fantastic seasonal shopping.

Holidays at the Market events are free, and open to all. Come celebrate the holiday season with us!

Artist Row is an annual juried art show that is held one Sunday in September. Nearly 200 up-and-coming artists present their wares for the public to purchase under “the sheds” of the beloved Rochester Public Market (instead of the fruits and veggies mongers you find there on Saturday mornings).

In an effort to support our local and regional community, the daylong event includes free live performances by local musicians on the main stage. We also have community organization information booths, and local food trucks vendors to keep us going throughout the day.

Artist Row began in 2004, with over 5,000 people attending an exhibit that featured 68 local and regional artists. The annual show has welcomed up to an estimated 20,000 attendees to view work from nearly 200 artists.

To encourage participation by emerging artist and artisans, the entry fee is deliberately kept to a minimum, and as a juried show, we present nearly $1,000 in awards to artists each year.

The 15th annual show will be held on Sunday, September 15, 2019 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Rochester Public Market.

Admission and parking is FREE!  

Artist Row is planned each year by a dedicated group of volunteers from the Friends of the Rochester Public Market. The show also receives generous primary sponsorship from Summit Federal Credit Union, as well as additional support from the City of Rochester and many other local sponsors. All show proceeds go to support programs run by the Friends including the SNAP EBT program, market tours and food tastings!
